You could get money towards renewable heating costs in your home.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme provides grants to encourage property owners to replace existing fossil fuel heating with more efficient, low carbon heating systems including air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps and, in limited circumstances, biomass boilers. You can get:
- £7,500 off the cost and installation of an air source heat pump
- £7,500 off the cost and installation of a ground source heat pump
- £5,000 off the cost and installation of a biomass boiler
These grants help property owners overcome the upfront cost of installing a low carbon heating system.
All labour and materials relating to renewable technology are also VAT free
Who is eligible for the Government Grant?
Anyone who meets the joining requirements. It is for households both off and on the gas grid. For more information.
To comply with the rules within the scheme the installer of your renewable technology must be MCS registered, if they are not you will not be eligible for the quarterly payments.
What is MCS? Do I need a MCS certified installer?
The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certifies, quality assures and provides consumer protection for microgeneration installations and installers. These consist of small scale renewable technologies that produce electricity or heat such as solar PV, biomass, wind, heat pumps and heat products.
The sole purpose of the MCS scheme is to cover areas such as the design, supply, installation, working principles, commissioning and handover of the microgeneration renewable technologies.
We have been installing heat pumps for around 10 years and have gained a fair amount of on-site experience. To become MCS registered we have to sit regular training courses on energy efficiency, ground source heat pumps and air source heat pumps, this is to ensure the Installation meets the high standards of the scheme.
